Katarzyna Deszcz
Katarzyna graduated in Law and Administration and then trained as a director at the National Theatre School in Krakow, under Tadeusz Kantor, Andrzej Wajda and Krystian Lupa. Katarzyna has worked intensively in Polish repertory theatres and her latest productions include: 'The Beauty Queen of Leenane' - Silesian Theatre, Katowice, 'The Book of Paradise' - Groteska Theatre, Krakow, 'Translations' - Stary Theatre, Kracow, 'Chicago' - Muzyczny Theatre, Gliwice, 'Miss Julie' and 'St Francesco' - Modern Theatre, Czestochowa, 'Lonesome West' - Slovacki Theatre, Krakow and 'Princess Turandot' - Ludowy Theatre, Krakow, 'Games with Devil' -Kochanowskiego Theatre Opole and 'Twelfth Night' - Ludowy Theatre Krakow. In 1982, she co-founded one of the leading experimental theatre companies in Poland - Mandala, for which she has directed over 20 performances presented in 30 countries. Katarzyna has worked extensively abroad, mainly in Germany, England, Ireland and USA. She writes scripts for theatre and television and directs for television channel TVP in Poland. Since 1993, Katarzyna has organised the International Biennial for Playwrights, 'Writing for the Theatre'. Katarzyna has directed five Scarlet productions 'Love and Other Fairytales' 'Sisters and Others', 'Seagulls', 'Princess Sharon' and 'The Sisters'.
Emma Bernard
Emma has been an associate member of Scarlet since 1987 and directed 'The Wedding', co-directed 'The Fruit has Turned to Jam in the Fields' and 'Digging For Ladies' (for Amy Roadstone Productions) with Gráinne Byrne. She has also worked with Scarlet as a performer/deviser on 'Double Gazing', 'The Sisters', 'La Folie' and 'Appetite of the Heart' and as a workshop leader and director on several educational projects. Emma was recently assistant director to Jane Howell on 'The Difficult Unicorn' and 'Blackbird' at Southwark Playhouse and Ben Harrison on The Almeida's 'Caledonian Road'. Credits as a performer include the film 'Notting Hill', 'Holby City' and, 'Faith in The Future' for TV, and theatre work with Graeme Miller ('A Girl Skipping' and 'The Desire Paths'), Gary Stevens and Lucy Bailey. Other directing projects include Cindy Oswin's 'How To Sing' and Emma is currently directing Sarah Woods's new play 'Cake' for Jade.
Mark Dymock
Mark has worked with Scarlet since 1996, designing the lighting for 'The Wedding', 'Love and Other Fairy Tales', 'Sisters and Others', 'Seagulls', 'Stranded' and 'Princess Sharon'. Other work includes: 21st Anniversary production of 'Educating Rita' for Liverpool Playhouse, 'Playing Sinatra' at the New End, 'Macbeth' at the Nuffield Theatre, 'Beauty Sleeps' at the Young Vic Studio, 'When Harry Met Barry' at The Gatehouse, 'The Woman Who Cooked Her Husband' for The Queens Theatre, 'The Portrait of Dorian Gray' for Vienna's English Theatre, 'The Club' at the Old Red Lion, 'Patter', 'The Life of Gallileo' and 'Incarcerator' at BAC, 'The End of the Sentence' and 'The Monument' at the Finborough', 'Pin Money' at the Jermyn St Theatre. Mark has also designed numerous shows for the Academy of Live and Recorded Arts and shows for Guildford School of Acting.
Nigel Piper
Nigel's previous work for Scarlet Theatre includes 'The Wedding', 'Love and Other Fairy Tales', 'Princess Sharon' and 'Paper Walls'. He has also composed music for Theatre Rites - 'Sleep Tight' and 'Catch Your Breath'. Other theatre works include John Hegley and Simon Munnery 'The Journals',and The Right Size 'Penny Dreadful'.
Andrzej Sadowski
Andrzej is a writer, designer, performer and director. After studying at the Academy of Fine Arts and graduating from National Theatre School in Kracow, Andrzej co-founded The Mandala Society with Katarzyna Deszcz. The company has performed in 30 countries in Europe, North Africa, America and Asia. In 2003, he founded a&a&a in Poland, for which he has written, designed and directed. In addition to performances, Andrzej has led workshops in Poland and throughout Europe and works as a visiting tutor at Dartington College of Arts (UK), Escola Superior de Musica & Artes Espectaculo (Portugal) and the Drama Department of Winnipeg University (Canada). Since 1996 Andrzej has collaborated with a number of Poland's repertory theatres, primarily as a writer and designer. Andrzej composed texts and created the scenography for Scarlet's productions, 'The Sisters' and 'Princess Sharon', 'Seagulls'. Andrzej most recently composed the text for 'Others' and designed the costumes for 'Love and Other Fairy Tales'.
Nick Revell
Nick began working as a stand-up comedian in the early days of "alternative cabaret". Since then he has written for and performed extensively on television and radio. He has written two novels - 'House of the Spirit Levels' and 'Night of the Toxic Ostrich'. His TV and radio credits include; 'The Sunday Format', 'Drop the Dead Donkey', 'The Nick Revell Show' and the 'Million Pound Radio Show'. Nick's first collaboration with Scarlet was in 2001 when he wrote 'Love and Other Fairy Tales'.
Cindy Oswin
Cindy Oswin is an actor, writer and director. Her acting credits include: 'Love and Other Fairy Tales' for Scarlet Theatre, 'Scenic Flights' for Paines Plough which she also wrote, 'The One Sided Wall' at the Bush Theatre and the film 'Caravaggio' by Derek Jarman. Writing credits include: 'La Folie', '(R) Age', which she also directed, 'On Air', 'Paper Walls' and 'The Remarkable Mrs Freeman', all for Scarlet Theatre. Shakespeare's Globe commissioned 'The Triumph of Hope' which she also directed for the royal opening event, as well as 'The Masque of Heaven and Earth' and 'Jiggy Jig-Jig'. Cindy co-wrote the screenplay for the film 'Dead Funny' and the libretto for 'A Better Place' composed by Martin Butler and commissioned by the English National Opera. Cindy regularly writes and performs her musical cabaret act 'How to Sing'. She is currently directing a new play for Clean Break 'Didn't Die' by Annie Caulfield.
Kate Eaton
Kate is an actor, writer and translator. She has been Scarlet associate since 1992 when she performed in ‘On Air’. Other performing credits include: repertory seasons in Norwich, Swansea, Guildford and Farnham and ‘I'll Be Your Dog’ at The Old Red Lion Theatre and national tour. Kate has worked extensively in television, including: ‘Resnick’, ‘A Very Peculiar Practice’, ‘Between the Lines’, ‘The Chief’ ’The Nation's Health’, ‘Growing Rich’, ‘Thief-Takers’, ‘Doctor Who’ and ‘The Bill’. Writing and translation credits include: ‘A Potentially Ugly Situation’ and ‘The Gag and Run Show’ for The Bellerby Theatre Guildford and University of Surrey, ‘The Shakespeare Show’ for Wandsworth schools’ drama project and poems by Cuban poet Dulce Maria Loynaz and ‘Two Panicking Old People’ by Virgilio Piñera. Kate has translated the first English version of ‘The Wedding’ by Piñera for Scarlet. |
